Bethany Beach

Delaware-Sunrise-0050

I’m starting this first post of this series of posts from my trip to Delaware on the last day of my trip.  We got up before sunrise to go to the ocean side of Bethany Beach.

There’s something a little ironic about that. The trip was ending just as the day was beginning. While everything around me was starting fresh, I was standing there at the finish line.  I was packed, the van loaded and I was dreading to go home.

Camera in hand, we arrived just as the entire sun rose above the horizon.  But that was ok.  I just under exposed and created the darker and vibrant colors.  I was lucky to find a complete sand dollar.  So, I used it in a few shots as a foreground element.

I wasn’t thinking about getting the perfect shot as much as I was just watching it happen. The light coming in slowly, the way things came into view piece by piece. It felt like a good way to close it all out, by paying attention.  That moment stuck with me.  I call these moments “Walter Mitty Moments”.  Just enjoy the scene.

So, I’m starting here, at the end of my trip to bring you through my experiences of this trip to Delaware.  There’ll be some major historic estates, art, flowers and gardens as well as one urban exploration destination.

Over the next few posts, I’m going to go back through the trip, one day at a time. Each outing, each place, each set of photos. Not just what I saw, but what I noticed once I slowed down enough to really look at it.

The sunrise may have been the last thing I photographed on the trip, but it feels like the beginning of something worth going back through.  So, back to the beginning of the road as I recount my adventures on this my creative path.
