Where I’ve Been – A Quick Life Update
Sometimes life just knocks at the door and as you open it, time just rushes in like a thief in the night. You know when you get involved in the flow and look up and it’s been hours that have passed. That’s how the past month has felt for me, and while I didn’t intend to loose that time it just sweep past me and here, I am a month later and still have work to share from my trip to Tennessee back in March.
I found that I had to give my time and energy to these things that life dropped on my doorstep. It’s been a month since my last post, and I wanted to take a moment to check in and let you know what’s been in my life. Life has a way of getting in the way sometimes.
Over the past few weeks, a lot has changed. I moved to a new apartment. There may be more on that in a future post. I was only in my old place for 8 months. Never in my life have I been in a place for so short a time. And while I’m excited about the new space, the process took more energy than I expected; I’m not as young as I think I am.
Then I had what I thought was a back problem. Not unexpected since I moved myself. My lower back was in excruciating pain. I used my heating pad, pain killers, a TENS machine, topical ointments, nothing helped. To the contrary it got worse. I feel I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I can tell those stories another time. Needless to say I lost two nights sleep, it just didn’t matter there was no way to get to sleep with the pain. That’s when the pain moved to the front. At first under my ribs and then to the groin. I went to the doctor and it turns out that I’ve been dealing with a pretty painful bout of kidney stones. Definitely not something I’d recommend! It’s been a rough stretch physically, and I’ve had to scale back quite a bit just to keep up with the basics.
Then a couple of weeks ago we started getting the summer staff for the day camp. So, work has also shifted into high gear. We recently moved to being open seven days a week, which has changed the rhythm of my free time considerably. I’ve been working 50 plus hours and it’ll only get worse from here. Camp every weekday, and groups every weekend. I’m a chef if you didn’t know.
Then there was the very expensive online class that I started back in March. It just ended but I wasn’t really able to attend the last four weeks of that either. I’ll be able to watch the recordings but missed the live class experience. It’s been a challenge to find time for creativity.
All that said, I’m beginning to find my footing again. My computer is set up again. My art studio is in decent shape. The outdoor porch is just about done. Bedroom was the first thing done. You’ve got to have a place to sleep, right? The kitchen is 90% done. I have a dish rack and pot rack to build and hang. Then lastly is the living room/meditation/yoga studio to set up. But that will be easy and I’m eager to reconnect with my creative work, this blog, and get on the path that I chose and opposed to the one that crossed my creative path. I’ll be back soon with my newest thoughts, ideas, creativity and photographs. Thanks for understanding
